Boat trailers: i purchasded in 2007 a brand new 18 foot g3 with a bear trailer that has a detachabble tongue with a bolt that goes thru the tongue housung into a keylock on the other side.This design is basically theft proof & should be standard equipment on all trailers to eliminate boat theft almost totally except in a case where the lowlifes could push it somewhere close.Hope boat is recovered successfully & dingleballs dealt with accordingly & not by the law========fea111

TWO STOP SHOP!!!!!! Had the pleasure of fishing today with Alex, Jonathan, Stephen, Les and Jeff. They came down last night for a fishing bachelor party. We got an early start this morning. The tide was low and rolling out. Figured the best shot was Breton Sound. The guys had very little experience. Capt Mark and I showed them how to set the hook and work the fish to the boat. We made 2 stops and limited out on big reds catching a total of 9 that we could keep. We also head a bunch of heads and puppy drum. Talk about a fun trip. The reds went crazy and the guys had a blast fighting the hard pulling fish. All the fish were caught on dead shrimp Carolina rigged on the bottom. The group had a great time. We are running the winter special through March. The fish are eating up just about as fast as you could get the bait in the water. Give us a call and get on the calendar. Spring and summer is right around the corner. I look for it to be a good year.

The signs started early, Loveofthepack had we set up , (Saturday night) to go to the Le Petite theater to see 13, turned out to be a real great performance by a young group  of talented yougins who can sing, dance and entertain you in a BIG way.

On the way home got to see a possum playing along the road.

After Big Jeff, (Big Brenda a no show) met me at 4:00 am @ Grand Champions in Slidell, (we threw all my gear into his 22 foot Sketter w/a 200, decked out with all the goodies) we saw not one, but two bunnies running along the road to Delacroix, now this was a real sign of how the day was going to go.

We where early, stopped in and talk to Big Lionel, and another fisherperson who was going out for a fun day on the water, it started to get daylight, we took off in Big Jeff’s Bay Boat, it growls at you when she jumps up out of the water.

Big Jeff & Big Brenda boat is a real nice looking and riding rig, takes the chop real well, enjoyed just being passenger, was able to sit back and let it all happen today.

CONDITIONS:

Perfect

Wind W.S.W. 2 – 3 mph, than 6 – 8 mph, than W. 10 – 18 mph steady

Sunny  /cool / warm, warmer

Tide falling all morning

Water clarity on scale of 1 – 7 was a 3 minus, best looking water in Bay Batola, and Point Fienne

Water temp 58 to start 61 when we left

TECHNIQUE:

Drift with wind, cast and retrieve w/corks, popping cork as we reeled in.

Found a little honey hole anchored up, (power pole nice)  and proceed to reel the Silverwonders at a real nice pace.

Action did not start till around 10:10 am, and it was over by 11:05, they started and stopped in the time frame.

Cast and retrieve tight line, Big Jeff caught a couple.

LURE FO THE DAY:

H&H 3” Chartreuse Glow Beetle with 1/4oz round H&H white head w/gold hook 2 to 2.5 feet under a cork.

Big Jeff caught (3) on a black something w/flat yellow tail, but he did not stay long on at that rig.

AREAS / SPOTS / NUMBERS ON THE MAP FISHED:

Spot # 17B (11)t, 16, 17 (1)t, 17 b (3)t, (16) Bingo (32)t, (1 flatthing Oh Oh!!!!), 17 (2)t, stopped fishing  around 11:40, headed on in.

Made a quick stop at spot # 5 so Big Jeff logs it in on his GPS, along with all the other Team Jo-Jo spots.

• Would have been a much better if fisherperson Big Brenda was on board for the trip, know we would have had another 25 Silverwonders in the box if she was on our team today.
• Best Fishing Trip of my life, until the next one.

FISHERPERSON OF THE DAY:

Tough one, think it might have been a tie, but all ties goes to the CAPTAIN, so Big Jeff took the honors TODAY, only because Big Brenda not on trip.

SUGGESTIONS:

Get an early start, find them, catch them, clean them, eat them, but once you catch them, head on home, don’t waste the day trying to improve your catch, be happy with whatever you catch.

Loveofthepack going to craft show in Fairhope Ala this coming weekend, Daughterofthepack and Baby Burgan will be joining her, so it looks like Oneofthepack will have a whole weekend pass to chase those lovely Silverwonders down in our Disneyland known as Delacroix Island 7/24.

John , 911 on a boat thief , did you see the movie Tooth Fiery , thats about as funny to me judging from my last 911 episode : I was leaving the French Quarters with my girl friend about 7 years ago right at dark and seen a pair of legs sticking out the grass on the shoulder of the road at the Elyians Fields on ramp to I 10  , I pulled over to see if the guy was alive possibly hit by a car and my girl friend was freakin' saying he was playing possum and going to jump up and get us , so I called 911 and drove on , well I learned that day that my phone was purchased in Jefferson Parish so the 911 call went to Jefferson , (I learned that  you need to have the Sheriff's number programmed into your cell phone for the parishes you travel ) ----   so to make a long story short , after about 45 minutes on the phone , and having told the story like 4 times to 4 different people and then being put on hold eating up my minutes and burning my brain with radio waves  I got tired and hung up , two days later at 12:30 at night my Dad who lived next door told me that he was with the NOPD and was knocking on my door wanting to talk about a 911 call I made , they never did talk to me about it  --------I was drinking coffee at a breakfest establishment that ain't dare no more and talking to some EMS guys about a year later and told them that story , small world cause he was the guy that picked up the body that had appeared to been laying there for a couple of days , I still don't know what happened to the guy

I have had a few different types of trailer tounge locks over the years , the Gorilla yellow and black , and the u shaped bar sytle , I really like the one I got now ,you would have to spend some time on this one ,  it's made by Master , the one I have is in the stainless steel version  but here is a picture of the type of trailer lock in a different finish --------I also put a  plastic coated steel cable thru the rim holes to the frame

Nartic22, sorry for your loss ,you didn't mention but I hope you had good insurance , I hate to say it but I'd bet the motor is on the back of another boat and fishing this weekend,  the trailer is sporting a plate off a junked trailer under some other boat ,and the stripped hull is in the woods somewhere ------------ what is really wierd to me reading your discription of the guy that stole your boat is first that personally I have a Black 4 door Dodge 1500 , and I am white , 5'9" and 175 lbs . and I fit your discription short of the Mississippi connection , but that ain't the wierdest thing , I moved to Lacombe last April and around Febuary or March while still living in New Orleans my Dodge's alarm system went off and I jumped up and got to the window in time to see a guy that fits your discription to the tee get into a Black Dodge and drive off, it was a extended cab and not to offend or profile the guy looked to be a redneck , I have looked for that truck for almost a year now and never seen it again ,  I called NOPD at about 2am and they should up at 9:30 the next mourning , the door had been opened and you could see finger prints with your naked eye on the door and they never even took prints , my truck has an aftermarket alarm that replaced the OEM and I really think if not for that then it would have been gone  -----ask your neighbor if they found the truck's exhaust to be a little louder than normal as I could hear him a block down the road as he took off floored

Good bite regardless of WIND and More WIND, Plus a rescue.. finished the day with 27 trout (13 to 21), 4 reds all slots 21 to 26) 6 flounder and an unexpected "blue river cat"
Launched for the first time out of Dock Side. (Great launch by the way Chas) for those that fish the bridges and run from bayou liberty to Borne.  Like the ease of parking on a saturday, regardless of the fact that many stayed home and out of the wind.
Hit a few canals with the trout spread out. Ran towards salt bayou and hear a HELP cry. Two teenages out in a flat boat lost power and were UP ON THE ROCKS in fromt of lakeshore..
One kid had only one leg and the other was not in the best of shape after drifting into the rocks with a dead out board and parking on the rocks... We pulled the flat boat inside of the lakeshore canal. pulled them to the lakeshore apratments, gave them the phone to call for a pick up as the lake was just too rough to drag the boat back. They made it out alive, but just have to wonder.....
back to fishing. Gulg 3 inch natural dragged slow on the bottom along with a 3/8n lead head did the trick, but the magic minnow hydrid with chatr. Dipped tail was what the flounder and redds wanted most.
sorry late night and pictures to follow when we put then on the table in the AM.
Saw Frank Daivis report and yes.... Today was tough.. But the fish are coming and a good mess can be caught. Just have to fish harder and out up with the wind....

Had a customer get stuck in the mud off of the Spoil Canal today.  Tide was REALLY LOW and the west wind was KICKIN...The Twin Vee was too big and our shallow flat was too small for the distance and island we had to pull them over;  So called Darryl and he and Hot Rod met me at the BSM with the Bay Ox and the pirogue.  It took a while, but we got them free and we were all on our way.  The Spoil canal was shallow and the wind was quite a challenge, but after the job we still had about an hour of daylight.  We took a trip and tried casting off of St. Milo, with no luck and then headed for home. The guy that took my boat was a white man around 5'7 and about 150 lbs. He was driving a black Ext. cab Dodge 1500. I had a Master lock on the top and a Big Yellow lock that went where the ball goes so be carefull if you have these. I guess nuthing is good enough. Thanks for the help guys.

Skunked in the Pen. Launched at Gulf Outlet Marina in Chalmette at 6:15 this morning with my 2 boys and nephew. Fished the Pen then over to the hot water canal then tried by the locks ans NADA! Stopped again in the Pen again on the way back in hoping to slavage the day but nope. We were using plastics tipped with shrimp and also shrimp on a jig. Wind was really howling and water was filthy. It was nice to finally get to run the boat though. Will try Delacroix in a couple of weeks.

Just as Oneofthepack returned home from dinner with Loveofthepack, Daughterofthepack, Baby Burgan, twins Ronin and William, along with Big Alice from Pittsburg, my cell goes off, did not hear it but notice latter Oneofthepack had a message.

I was beginning to think I was going to have to go it alone in the AM, but when I returned the call, met Big Jerry for the first time.

Going fishing says he, says I sure am, meet me at the Waffle House in Chalmette for 5:00 am says I, no make that 5:30 am and we will head won to our Disney World.

Now Oneofthepack nervous. Like I was going on a blind date, did not know what to expect, but after a short conversation with Big Jerry I knew I was in good company, with someone who loves fishing as much as I do.

We transferred all the gear into the FORD transporter, and headed straight to the boat slip, loaded up the Bay Flat Sr, on to Big Lionel’s for some go juice, ice, and goodies to eat.

As usual went in to say high to all, Big Lionel calls me over and gives the word, GO HERE, and go we did.

CONDITIONS:

Perfect

W.N.W.  Wind 8 – 10, than 15 to 20 steady she blows

Sunny & cool

Tide falling hard, think someone pulled the plug out on a salt dome and it was draining the march.
Water clarity on a scale of 1 – 7 was a 2 minus, looked good for the first 45 minutes than the wind picked up.

Water Temp started at 56 than on to 59 deg

TECHNIQUE:

Run up wind to lee side of land,  turn around, let the wind push the boat, throw the corks out front 2 to 2.5 feet deep with H&H 3” Glow Beetle w/ H&H  ¼ oz round white head w/gold hook, do a little popping and hold on.

Oneofthepack tried “THE OAK RIVER TROLL” but the wind had us going 2.1 mph, the beetle was skiing on top of the water.

Get an early start to catch the wind slack and fish the clean water until the wind picks up, don’t try to make it happen, catch what you can, return home early to play with  the baby’s Mama, and take care of all the honey dues she ahs for you to do. Negotiate a fishing pass for next weekend; feel this will be the weekend for the Silverwonders to really TURN ON!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Big Jerry and Oneofthepack must have caught 1,000 boxes of Silverwonders, we just keep telling fishing tails of trips gone by.

Each story got better, and better as Big Jerry and Oneofthepack relived every trout slam we ever had, and with detail as to the who, what, when, where, why, how of it all.

Big Jerry indicate he even started to keep a diary of his catch, last year he and his team was over 1,300 fishes, that is a sign of a true fisherperson, and not a fair weather outdoorsmen.

Looking forward to our next trip down the road.

Thank you for contacting me with your concerns about the National Ocean and Great Lakes Policy report recently released by the Ocean Policy Task Force.  I appreciate hearing from you on this important issue, and I share your concerns about this report.



As you know, President Obama created the Ocean Policy Task Force to develop a national policy for conserving and managing resources in U.S. marine waters and the Great Lakes.  In the released interim report, no mention was made of the importance and contributions of sport fishermen to both marine conservation and economic activity in coastal communities.  This omission has led to fears that decisions made using the proposed policy could lead to closure of some marine and Great Lakes waters to recreational fishing.



Like you, I am astonished that the Ocean Policy Task Force did not take into account the valuable contributions of recreational fishermen.  Recreational fishermen provide most of the funding for fisheries conservation through license fees and excise taxes paid on recreational fishing equipment.  The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration has also determined that recreational saltwater anglers contribute $82 billion annually to the economy, and their economic importance is magnified in coastal communities.  As a member of the U.S. Senate Commerce, Science, and Transportation Committee, which has jurisdiction over this issue, I will fight to ensure that the contributions of recreational anglers to marine conservation are acknowledged in the final policy report, and I will vigorously oppose any efforts to close areas of our oceans or the Great Lakes to recreational fishing.

I caught these crappie (sac-a-lait) in Barataria, LA in mid February, the day it rained and sleeted. I caught the crappie on just about anything I threw at them-red and green mini jig, blue and white mini jig, purple and black, and also caught baby crawfish in the ditch and used them under a cork also.

Another Friday night and I ain’t got nobody, to go fishing with tomorrow, I got my pass cause Loveofthepack is running in the AM ,  oh how I wish I had someone  to fish with tomorrow.

Started with First Mate Big Glenn B, say I, 10 – 20 mph North West winds what do you think, what you think says he, think I will live to fish another day says he.

Plus Big Glenn B had other commitments to deal with; I think he just said that to let me down easy.

Moved on to a sure thing , Second Mate Big Pablo, same tune I sing, says he I work tomorrow, now I really know the signs are looking real bad at this time.

Oneofthepack was going to move on to our Third Mate, (cause everybody knows 3 times is a charm) but decided not to make the call to Big Bud, rejection is real hard for me to accept.

This affectation started many fish years ago at the first dance I ever attended  at the Durichest house / hall on Franklin Ave, and I was rejected by Mary Lou, when I asked her to dance, but that is another story.

So I will end this tail, with the creed of TEAM JO-JO,  “YOU GOT TO GO TO KNOW” so know tht Oneofthepack will be on the water in the AM, either at “THE PEN”, or our Disney World known as Delacroix Island.

I can assure you that as soon as the trout bite resumes and these winds die down a bit, all the political B/S will fall to the wayside.

This is simply a product of the 'pre' season where everyones itchy and no one can get a good break...

I'll bet in LESS than 2 weeks time, we'll be reading about TROUT trout and more trout being caught, and that moron who has hijacked our whitehouse will be no more than a blirp on the news to us fisherpersons.

Mike Lane where are you!!       Thought the title or this forum was fishing reports!!! The political comments, as far as I am concerned, are all crap if they appear 0n this forum. Which ever side of the fence they are on. Especially when they mention peoples names whom they haven't talked too.Or mention someones name as if they Know " their kind". Excited about the trout showing up though!!!

Biologists at the University of Southern Mississippi’s Gulf Coast Research Laboratory (GCRL) in Ocean Springs, Mississippi are studying whale sharks in the northern Gulf of Mexico.  If you encounter a whale shark, you can help the GCRL biologists learn about whale shark occurrence and distribution in the northern Gulf by participating in GCRL’s ONLINE WHALE SHARK SIGHTINGS SURVEY.

After a real lack luster weekend and early week,
the Tuna finally decided to bite yesterday. We
started out the morning trolling for wahoo and
managed several bites but could not keep them
on the hook. Sporadicaly, we would pick up a
nice blackfin but the wahoo must have been
smarter than us. At about noon, we spotted a
bait ball and we switched gears. We threw a net
on some pogies and it was game on from there!
We bumped from ball to ball as they popped up
live baiting and throwing poppers. When the
smoke cleared, we had a full fish box and worn
out anglers. We had one 70 pound yellowfin on
a popper and lost another. We also had a 150
class yellow knock a pogey out of the water but
as luch would have it, a 30 pound black ate it
before the yellow could hit the water. We also
had a box full of big blacks up to 30 pounds.
The action didn't stay on for long but we made
the most of it.

THEY'RE BACK!!! Yesterday, I went down to do a little scout trip for tomorrow's filming with Mike Lane. With the water temps finally getting over 60 degrees, I ran over to a spring trout spot near Lake Amadee. As any of you that have been out lately know, the Redfish action has been great, but the trout have had lockjaw. Well, what a difference a few degrees can make! I was using HYBRID FLURRIES in the Chartreuse/glitter color under a cork, and it was every cast action. I caught my limit in about 35 minutes. The trout weren't big, mostly 12 to 14 inches, with a few throwbacks, but it was the first good trout bite since the freezing temperatures of last month. If the water temps stay up, trout limits will come easy. From what I saw yesterday, the big freeze didn't hurt the trout populations at all!!!

Foggy start around mid day, but the fish did not mind. Folks, the reports are correct and the lake is starting to show some sign of Trout Life.....
Bite started hard and fast with some nice size trout 17 to 22 inch right off the bat, but as the bite slowed, the size went down..
Interesting bite, working plastics slow across the bottom. If the weather stays nice and the water stays up in the next week.... the spring fishing should really heat up. Final count..
19 keeper trout (4 dinks release to grow)
2 small reds (both tagged and released)
1 lost flounder
2 undersize drum released
several missed because sometimes it is better to get the net....
Great day...Oh..Get ready as with spring comes the teeth with wings. I am field testing some gear from Insect Shield and having some of my garments treated. The marsh and Canada for spring bear should be the untimate test.. Itching now just thinking about the gnats...

I'm taking my 2 boys (11 & 13) to the Pen in Chalmette tomorrow for our first trip of the year. Charged my batteries and cranked up the boat for the first time in about 4 months, she purred like a kitten. Looking forward to getting back out on the water on a regular basis. Will post a report when we return. I hope the Reds are still in the Pen. The really good fishing should be upon us soon!! Good luck fishing to everyone!

Late report from last Friday. I had Mike and John Anders on the boat Friday all the way down from St. Louis. These are some really good guys as well as great fisherman and I thoroughly enjoy fishing with them every time they make the trip down. We Left out early that morning with great conditions and quickly made our way out to the Tuna grounds and began cutting and chumming. The bite was very slow and without even many Bonita (little tunny) in the slick things were looking bad and I was already contemplating option 2. Our persistence and determination however, paid off and we were fortunate to land some really good fish. We had 6 Tuna bites all day and we landed 4 of them. The weights were 158, 139, 133 & 125. All fish were caught on 6/0 hooks with 80lb Frenzy Fluorocarbon. We chummed with pogeys and all the came from chunks of Bonita. Capt. Josh started out with us Tuna fishing but decided to go chase some hooters. He didn't have to chase much because he smoked them! His crew ended up with 9 big Wahoo. Friday was just one of those times when we both had great days. This has been one of the strangest winters. Probably due to the extraordinarily high/frigid river, the extreme cold temperatures as well as the fronts that seem to be rolling in every 2 days. Even though the fishing has not been as consistent as everyone would like, the fishing continues to be good. We still have a few open dates in March and April and we have begun booking overnighters as well as Summer Snapper trips. Give us a call at (225) 252-5315

Yesterday was just about perfect down here in Lafitte.Its been a long time since we had a day to fish like this.We had 3 boats running around chasing reds and bass.They were not disappointed.

Manual F. and Brian's Trip

Capt.Mikey fished with Manual and Brian today.They delayed their trip not leaving the dock till 9am.They ran east in foggy condtitions and found the redfish waiting for them.Fishing mainly points they easily put their limits of reds on ice and released a few.For some reason they would not hit shrimp or plastics.They did however destroy natural gulp shrimp under a cork.

I(Capt.James) fished solo yesterday chasing my favorite green trout.Stayed close to the marina fishing the Pen.Started out fishing my own custom made buzz bait.Caught one nice bass before switching to a crankbait.That was the bait of choice for me.Ripping the bait through the grass the bass just destroyed it.Has about 50 bites landing 26 decent bass and 2 nice reds in a few hours of fishing.Kept my legal limit of small ones for dinner tonight and released the rest.

Capt.Mike H. was also bass fishing with his Paran up near the Tank Pond.They pounded the bass also.He should have a report soon.But I do know they fished Senko's and a crankbait.

All reds ate Berkly Gulp Shrimp under a cork on main points.The bass ate Capt.James custom buzz bait and Strike King crankbaits and Senkos on the grass beds.

Another thing that would be cool to this page would be a side window that would list new posts to the forum when you open the reports. May get more flow to the forum area for anyone that want to rant/rave about anything other than a fishing report.
