CAPT. JOSH HOWARD

Venice, LA USA

The geese have been here for a while but getting them in shooting range is the challange.  Every year about mid January, they will start to gang up in feilds, during the conservation we will take a ton of geese so I am sure we will more than fill our freezers!

The wahoo have really moved in. Right now we can put you on all of the hoo and amberjack action that you can stand.

We are also booking for the Lump right now, any day it should turn on. We still have a few weekend dates open, if you want them, please call or email.

I have fished many times in Alaska with several different outfitters.   I highly recommend Dave Jones who fishes out of Kodiak.  He operates both an outcamp and a small lodge (Alpenview).   You will not be overrun with other fisherman.  Dave knows his area and knows how to put you on fish.  You will not be disappointed.  I will be glad to share more info with you.

GO LONG CHARTERS

Saint Amant, LA USA

Made a hunt saturday the 3rd with Michael Long and Robbie Gautreau. Both guys deck hand for me on offshore trips so I figured I owed them a good duck hunt. Robbie had never duck hunted and so we were ready to give it to him for poor shooting however the guy is a natural. He shot very well. Despite the thunderstorms we killed 18 ducks and 11 geese. Great trip!

Guys, remember this trip when you get tired about 3:30 in the morning and I ask you to cut some chum!

Late report: Michael took Bill Ritchie and Buzz Clanton wednesday December 31st. A small front had passed the night before their trip so they were expecting a decent hunt. Their expectations were met! The group managed to kill 11 ducks and 11 geese consisting of limits of specklebellys and pintails along with several greenheads. Outstanding job guys!

Get well soon Bill!

Bob Gourgues Between the Banks

Thibodaux, LA USA

Hello Again Cyber Anglers, We continue to fish out of Bayou Black Marina in Gibson as in 29 years I have never found the Bass and Redfish biting so hard. I ran to Bayou Copasaw and as I was heading south, I came to mixing water in the BlueBird Canal area. Armed with my ¼ oz. chrome Bill Lewis rattletrap, I cranked the mixing water as it met Copasaw and had no problem catching my limit of Bass and Redfish. I worked all of Copasaw south of Bluebird for 1 mile, both sides where the banks dropped off to the middle.

I made sure that I capitalized on the two large release wells that my 2400 Tournament Pathfinder sports, releasing the bigger, egg bearing, female Bass in one well, while turning the bigger Redfish loose from the other well. Culling was definitely a plus as we took home only the plentiful smaller buck Bass and 16-18” Redfish.

I ran into a lot of folks that have been watching the series of Between the Banks Shows that we have been filming in this area, but not catching the fish that we have. Most of their problems were related to them setting up and fishing rattletrap with out clogging on grass and structure. One angler that was fishing Copasaw area while I was there, had lost all 6 of his chrome ¼ oz. rattle traps and was catching his Bass and Redfish on a shiner Sac-a-lait rig.

I pointed out that set up and boat position are key factors for rattletrap success. I gave the angler my rattle trap rod, a medium action, 7 foot Okuma Guide Select Rod with a 30 class Inspira high gear ratio reel, clad with 12 lb. low vis green, triple fish line. He pulled his boat away from the bank and the thicker grass beds and tree roots, repositioning along the 5-6 foot drop-offs. His depth finder was now on and in fish ID mode as he cast along the drop off and into the snag free, deeper water. Surprised at what was on sonar, it was not long before he hooked up, and returned my rod n reel.

If you are interested in checking out this incredible bite for yourself, tune into Between the Banks Television Show on LCN (Louisiana Connection Network) twice a day, am/pm. RodnReelTV.com now has all of the last two months episodes up including the 4 Lake Penchant episodes. If you would like to experience the bite in person while plugging your business, drop an e., as we are booking 09 filming schedule. Channel info and contact info on my site here on rodnreel.com.

Will be at the New Orleans Boat Show this week from Wed thru Sunday at the Boat Stuf display. Come by and I’ll show you the new Yamaha powered Pathfinder boats especially the 2200 Tournament series. I should have the numbers on the 2400 Tournament that I use on the Tube if you are shopping or just want to talk fishing.

Congradulations Mike Lane on your Television Debut. Happy New Year to all, and thanks for watching and making 08. In the meantime good luck fishing……BOB

Made it out on the water in Lafitte yesterday before day break to find the wind was shifting from south to southeast and back again all day long. Fished Bluepoint early until noon and picked up 10 keeper bass all 2-3lbs. Threw back 6 knotheads. Moved to the Pen and we were able to pick through the small ones and keep 35 trout. Not a bad day considering the conditions.

I was just wondering about the lack of offshore fishing reports lately.  Is this because no one is fishing much due to the weather or holidays?  We've got a trip to the lump planned for Jan 20th and I was hoping to get a feel for what's happening out there.

Lafitte Report

Today Capt.James had the pleasure of fishing with Joey and Ashley Minville. They fish several times a year with Capt.James and usually put a hurting on the fish.Well today was different as they really had to work for them. They started off the day making a good run to get away from the boat traffic to a little bay that Capt.Mikey slammed the trout in just a few days ago.The water was really pretty but the bite just was not happening. They made the run back north to the secret grass bed.Working crankbaits on the edge of the grass they slowly started to put a mess of fish in the box.Don't know if it was the lack of tide but the bite was real funny.Ashley had the Grand Slam of redfish, trout and bass while Joey had the Super Grand Slam consisting of reds, trout, bass and a blue cat.It was nothing easy but they had their limits of reds, plus about 20 nice trout,8 bass and 1 lone blue cat on ice.

Joey,Ashley like always it was a blast.Joey when the sac-a-lait get going good I will give ya a call. Thanks again for everything.Off the water for the next week or so to upgrade my license and its boat show time.

All fish came of Foot Loose and Minus 1 crankbaits fished on the edges of grass beds with G Loomis Rods and Shimano Reels spooled with Power Pro.

Fished this morning out of BSM around 7 with a buddy. There was no wind and plenty of bugs out. We headed into the Biloxi Marsh with temps in the 60's. Water clarity was good but had little to no tide movement. We fished under a cork with SWA's in opening night color. Plenty of trout caught but they were all 11" with very few keepers mixed in. Decided to troll over to my redfish hole and they weren't home like last week. Managed to find a few keepers and a few throwbacks. When the winds picked up out of the south at 10-15 we made one more move to a different area with 1 trout to show for it. Picked up at 12:30 and finished the day with 24 trout and 4 reds. Nice day weather wise which warmed up to 75 degrees and water temps topped out at 64.

Fishing Magician Charters

Today Capt. Jason had the pleasure of fishing with Ryan and his wife Kathy. They have fished with us before and was looking forward to this January trip. Well, as luck would have it, the weather was beautiful.

They fished the Biloxi Marsh where at every stop fish were caught. They caught their limit of 50 trout and called it a day. All fish were caught 2' under a popping cork using Campo's live shrimp. Plastic is good at this time of the year. However, there is nothing like having the real thing, swimming underneath you cork.I spoke to Kathy and Ryan at the dock, and they couldn't say enough about how they enjoyed the day with Capt. Jason. They were discussing a return trip with friends at a later date.

So guys, if you want to catch some fish, before the weather turns too cold, there is still a lot of fish to be caught in the Biloxi Marsh, Hopedale and the Delacroix Island areas. Give us a call to book your next fishing trip. All of our captains are born and raised right here on the bayous. Give a try, I don't think you will be sorry.

I still have a couple of boat slips available for rent with: lifts, electricity, water, and cleaning tables.

I didn't even bother hooking up the flat seeing that the rain was on its way. I stopped at one of the many cuts between Laplace and Manchac and picked up some decent sized perch ,fishin about 1 1/2 ft under a cigar cork . Not fast action like the summertime is but enough to keep me excited . I called it a day around 10 and let what I had caught go to fight another day. In response to scott

Hey Scott, if I was you, I would go out of  Tiger Pass and try the Lump. You can troll, chunk and jig all in the same area. I would use the 50's out there, being that there are some really big tuna as well as wahoo this time of year. If your going to anchor, you will need about 600' of rope as well as 30 'of heavy chain. If nothing is around there, then I would troll around the usual platforms(Lena, Moxi,Cognac,7 mile rigs). You can run back through south pass on your way in. There is also a good rig on the way to the lump that holds Wahoo. We've done well on both of those baits. Pink has worked best, but purple or chrome does pretty good too.Buy some Shimano Butterfly jigs, and try jigging around the lump and the rigs. Black and yellowfin love those jigs. Your smaller reel will be perfect for the that.If you have a cast net,try catching some mullet in the river on your way out. Live bait is always good to have. Hope this helps. If you have any other questions, just send me a email.

Feel horrible today in more than one way. Made plans to bring wife and a couple of newbies out to fish  this weekend. Cancelled  our trip to Hopedale yesterday on account of impending weather. Of course never rained there til the afternoon. Just such a long way to go with gas and everything to fish for an hour or two then get rained out. Not that big of deal just rescheduled for today. Wife even called BSM around 5am this morning to ask how the conditions were after all the storms last night and if they had some live shrimp . Well woke up this morning about 1 1/2 hr late feeling sick to the stomach. Told them wasn't going and had everyone mad at me. Got back in bed and slept til after 11, I never ever sleep that late. Anyway for those who went today please tell me I did not miss much. That the fishing was horrible and not that many were caught etc, etc. It will make me feel much better. Of course if you did do really good let me know that to :)

Woke up Sat. with my gut telling me to stay home but my buddy wanted to go so off we went. It was perfect FISHING weather.... HOT! We hunted a pond where we found a lot of birds last time but it didn't matter the birds just didn't fly. Luckily we were on target today because the only 4 ducks that came in range we dropped. For the first time this year we had sky-busters set up near us they would shoot at anything including sea-gulls and commorants (frustrating). Not many shots heard a few early. The few that did fly landed in one small area, we scouted it and jumped a big flock of greys/teal. They were feeding on an exposed mud bank full of snails/clams. That's where we will be next time, but of course the birds won't. Ended with 1-b/w teal 2-greys 1-spoonie
