We have no pictures of our 4 (four) trout caught yesterday because we gave them to some folks at a camp on Wilkerson canal along with our left over croaker bait. But I have gotten some request for a picture of the misting system that helps us beat the heat. It works like a dream while fishing and it doesn't hurt while cleaning the boat either. Happy 4th. |

Happy 4th. All my friends out there think I’m fishing today, but no, I’m celebrating the 4th with my wife, daughter, and grandsons. I decided this year that I would have a normal holiday. I’m bar-b-qing, eating watermelon and drinking (lemon- aid). Just got off the phone with my son in Germany. Monday it’s back to the old grindstone-fishing in Venice. Yes, it’s a tough life, but someone’s got to do it. The reds have been on fire in Venice. They are stacking up along the passes waiting for the Mississippi to fall a few more feet so they can move in. I don’t know how much longer it will last, but I’ve had several trips that we caught over 100 reds. It’s silly. The trout are looking for clean water so that’s what you have to do, find clean water. My best luck has been on live bait under a Lowcountry Lightning cork. Clean water plus live shrimp, equals trout. |

i know we have some leeville fishermen on here, anyone been, going, there now? we fished last weekend on the eastside of leeville, right pass jesse in s.w. canal and fished with short corks on the grass in the evenings with live minnows and caught some reds, chased birds using 2' cork also with live minnows and hit the trout, no limit but, put a few in the boat, my son, butterbean had the big one of the day 3.0lber, and he also had the biggest red 25.5", we also had live skrimps, and they perfered the minnows, which is fine by me, alot cheaper....oh yea, did catch some bird trout on plastic's, d.o.a's and blk/cht cocahoes.....i may be down there this week-end 50/50...but definetly last weekend of july for the last trip before kids go to school..look for me, easy to find, i have a 16'yahat (flat), i'll be staying at boudreauxs, unless someone has a place for rent thats less than boudreauxs....don't forget to pop it.... |

It is very refreshing to see the positive comments about Breton Sound Marina. I am a family friend of all of those guys and NEVER get special treatment nor do I expect any. I can tell you this; From the most famous fishing guides to the first timers BSM treats everyone like family and shows no favorites. It has always been first come first serve even to their own family!!! As it sucks when there is no live bait, let's think of how lucky we are to have a marina like the BSM who always has bait when no one else does, and Glenn has been putting me on fish since I was a teenager. First class service from first class people. Boogie is probably the best bait man in the state and only when he has temporary mechanical failures does this even come up which doesn't happen very often. Glenn and his staff run around like crazy to get us out on our way and to the fish on crowded mornings, and there's a reason why they are always crowded. I think I can speak for a lot of people when I say they are second to none! |

Launched out of the new Sweetwater back down this morning. Capt. Jack Payne runs a first rate operation and he helped put us on some really good fish. Finished up with a 3 man limit of reds before noon. All fish caught on Gold Spoons in some small no named pockets close to the launch. Thanks Jack, we will be back soon! |

another productive day for the bigger trout. we went out today for some quality trout and we hit several right in the mouth. we ended the day today with 49 speckled trout. Mr.StPirre had some buddies along Mr.Roddy and Mr.Robert and last but not least "peewee". it was a slow bite today at times but we kept pecking atum til we boated the 49.
attached is Kurt with his bigun of the day.
reports iam getting are the trout are biting pretty good on the rocks in front of the state park early in the morning. for some reason the beach bite has slowed down a bit. the oyster reefs in the back of grand isle are produceing numbers in the morning. the reef behind cigars marina has been very hot. they are catching trout in the 14in to 17in range in big numbers. i can see the reef from my house and its constanly full of boats til dark. indepedence island is being hit hard with trout right now. queen bess is getting hammered with trout right now also.
good luck

i had a great day with a good friend of mine Mr.Jim Hicks daughter and her husband, Becky & Eric along with his son/her brother Justin and his wife Jen who experienced catching fish for the fish time. Justin and Eric fish more than the ladies do but the girls never experienced something pulling their string quite this hard. but they did a great job getting their share of trout in the box.
wanted to thank you all for coming out and i enjoyed showing you guys a great time on the water.
attached is a picture of Becky with her big trout.

Fishing Magician Charters Today, I had the pleasure of fishing with Rob, who works for Entergy in New Orleans. He brought his family and friends. Today, I had Capt. Jason give me a hand. We each had 4 anglers. The guys had to be back at the dock by 10:00. So, the day was short and sweet. Each boat had a nice mess of speckled trout. And when we got back to the dock, and started cleaning the fish, the guys grabbed a bag of fillets and headed straight to the kitchen at the lodge. They had a nice fresh fish fry. Capt. Jason and I fished the Bay Eloi area. All fish were caught 2' under a popping cork and Carolina Rig on the bottom using Campo's live shrimp. If you want to catch some fish and have some fun, Fishing Magician Charters is the one. The hardest thing you will have to do is pick up the phone to give us a call or email. Also, if you have your own boat, come on down and visit the oldest marina in town. Pick up some of Campo's famous live shrimp, you will be glad you did. And, tell the Campo's "Hello". You'll be glad you did. Capt. Johnny Nunez |

Friday Hopedale Report: Fished hard today, fought wind an stained water. Went straight to my favorite rig, we put 4 trout in the boat fast, fishing live shrimp on bottom then it quit. Bounced around to about 5 structures nothing but trash fish. Headed back inside saw a friend on the way in he said they only had a couple (things weren'tlooking good). Stop under some birds but for some reason this year every flock I've stopped at the fish have been tiny, and once again that was the rule here so we moved on. Next stop was the ole trusty redfish hole, but nobody was home! It was now 9:00 a.m. things weren't looking good. I had a cousin from Nashville with me and I wanted to put him on some fish. I thought about an old spot around treasure pass, problem was I hadn't fished it in about 3 years, I didn't know what to expect. The spot has a little drop off about 15ft deep. Well...... we caught the back end of the bite but for the first 15 mins. it was every cast no matter what you threw, caught em on live, dead, and on plastics, even caught 2 on a bare hook! All these specks were solid, the frenzy slowed but we still caught them almost every cast on bottom with live shrimp until we ran out. Final Count: 41-trout. Not a bad way to salvage a windy day! |

Bari and I made the Myrtle Grove to Elmers Island jump today to celebrate her birthday and ended up with two expensive trout poor boy sandwiches: 70 lbs. of ice, launch, 150 live croakers, 37 gallons in the boat and what ever the truck burned = 4, (four) trout. The water along Elmers Island was as dirty as I've ever seen it. The gulf was not at all rough, but the WSW wind has Bayou Lafouche blown smack up against the beach, with the clean water holding 150 yards out. Went half way to the Fouchon in hopes of finding clean water to the beach, but it was not to be. East of Camanada the water was great but harly any fish. Listened to several people on th radio in Barataria and it was the same. Fishe to Four Bayou, Bay Ronqullie, Cat Bay, and Barataria, man it was tough sledding, and hot as hell even with the mister system. But some one always posts on the site that "you gotta go to know", and they are correct. Any way hope everyone has a safe 4th. ARRIVE ALIVE!!! |

I would like to post a special thanks to Captain Peace Marvel for facilitating yet another of my memorable offshore fishing excursions this past Monday and Tuesday. Despite the windy weather that nearly shut us down, Peace was able to change things up and put me on fish both days. Snapper became the name of the game on Monday and Tuna on Tuesday. And both days ended quite successfully. |

Great day with the ladies today: Garland and Sharyl. Couldn't believe these gals got up so early. We left Cypress Cove Marina just after 5 this morning and went out the east side with live shrimp. First stop the girls limited on trout. These were not big trout and I thought many were males but when I cleaned them at least half were females. Made a very short move and stopped for reds. On the very first cast Sharyl hooked up on a nice keeper red and it was on! I was taking reds off so fast I didn't have time for a cup of coffee. It didn't take long to limit on reds and along the way the girls released 25-30 more. It was all happening so fast I didn't have time to keep track of them all. We made another move and pulled up next to some guys, coasted close and set the power pole. We just wanted to watch while we ate our sandwiches. We had another great adventure as we pulled the boat up close to an island and waded ashore. We had my dog, McKinsey along and she had a ball bouncing in the water and running up and down the beach. We had an "almost moment" when a huge nutrea ducked into some grass just as McKinsey passed by. Fortunately she didn't get the scent. She did have a blast rolling in the huge piles of duck-weed that had washed up on the shore. I've included a picture so you can see how she has grown and how much fun she was having. I have also posted a picture of Sharyl with her largest red of the day. Tomorrow I plan to put the girls on some big bull reds. Jesus is Lord. |

Lafitte Report: Left out of the Goose Bayou launch at 5 am headed to Manilla again. Ran across a blue & white bay boat leaving Joe's Landing running with no lights. It was well before light, and way too much boat traffic in the main canal to do that. Come on guys, better safe than dead. Anyway, first stop at Manilla, amist the flotilla, the wife and I caught probably 40 or so throw backs, and one 14" trout. Then an older gentleman in a small white bay boat trolled down the point of the small island we were fishing, anchored within 50 feet of us, and started casting right off my bow. No reason to crowd anyone, just flat out rude. You want the same spot, leave earlier, and get there first. Simple idea, right? Got a call from a friend around the corner at bouy 32 who was a few catching keepers. He asked us to come over and try to put a few in the box. Ran over to his location, and the switch had already turned off. We pointed both boats south, and headed down to Bassa Bassa. Fished under two sets of birds catching more dinks. Decided to head back up to a honey hole at Three Bayou Bay. Trolled the shore line three times, and had three reds turn on the spot remover, but would not inhale. Called it quits and headed in at 11 am. Ran across two guys at the launch in a bass boat that limited on reds in Little Lake. Will be back out on Monday. Not even going to get caught in the fray this weekend. Nothing scares me more than a bunch of drunk drivers in 24' bay boats with 300hp motors, that they use three times a year (Memorial Day, 4th of July, and Labor Day). You know they're out there, so be safe this weekend. 'Til next time: Tight Lines and Screamin' Drags! P.S. - I've been posting as "Stick" for years (since Mike Lane lived on T-Parkway), but apparently no one checks previous post before taking over a screen name. Need some way to register a screen name to post, and we would not have the confusion over who's who. |

West Wind, Tough Fishing - made a late afternoon/evening trip out of Delacroix on Thursday. Fished three spots then changed territory, first at the entrance to Lake Palo from Four Horse Lake, False River as it drops out into Lake Palo, and the cut from Lake Palo as it opens up into Lake Campo. Hard falling tide. Lots of small trout on live shrimp on the bottom and under a cork. Threw six in the box about 13 inches. One nice red on the Campo shore line. Decided to switch areas and headed for Pumpkin Bay on the other side of Terre Boeuf. As we were headed out into Pumpkin Bay saw birds diving and the rest is history. On plastic, any color, it was fast as you could go. Lots of small trout, occasional catfish, some white trout and a fair number of keepers to 16 inches from 7 PM to just before 8 PM when a thunderstorm ran us home. West wind was about 15-20 knots and made getting outside tough. Another Boat tried outside around Stone Island, Wreck, etc. and had dirty river water (pushed by the West Wind) all over. They went back inside and caught trout under the birds like we did. Another note: after about 10 minutes the birds left us in Pumpkin Bay, but the trout never stopped biting. You could throw in any direction and almost immediate hits. Bigger trout were on the bottom and you need a larger jig to get past the small trout - it seemed that any plastic with orange in it worked really well. |

Frogman, I was in no way trying to attack BSM. I have been going there for over 20 yrs. I just thought it was funny that 6 people ahead of me in line got live shrimp then when I got to the door, all of a sudden they are out of shrimp. Kinda made me think something "fishy" was going on. As far as BSM, they are a first class operation and Glenn has been more than helpfull to us everytime we go down there. That is why I thought if something was going on behind his back, he should know about it. Mechanical things break and if that is what caused the problem, then I can deal with that. It is just my luck that they ran out of shrimp at the time I was trying to get mine. Next trip will be better I am sure. |

Lafitte Report Another hot one again today and the fish did not seem to mind it at all. We had 3 boats out today with Capt.Mike H. taking the Roy Koch crew out. They started off fishing trout just off the channel at Redfish Bay.They found some good trout working under the birds and stayed with them until it was over.Next for them was redfish. They made the run back to Little Lake and found some schools working the shell banks. They put 13 keepers in the box and called it a day with 84 trout and 13 reds.Capt.Mikey had the Johnson Party. They fished trout only and had a good day also. They headed in early with 108 on ice.Capt.Mike J. fished with the Juneu crew after getting a 4am call from Capt.James as he was not feeling to well(Thanks for bailing me out today and tomorrow Old Mike). They ran to Little Lake and fished the shell banks pounding the schooling reds. They put their 25 redfish limit on ice and called it an early day. All trout came on H&H glow beetles fished 2ft. under a cork. The reds ate up H&H spinnerbaits. Now for du458 the exact locations where the fish came from today was: Trout, look at your map and find Redfish Bay just off of Hackberry Bay.Fish the oyster poles with the red flags on them.Reds came from Little Lake on the shell banks near the Y.The gps numbers are 29 31.08, 90 08.92.Can't be more specific than that. Now since you have only 1 post ever on rodnreel, if you catch a few fish then you can share your trip info with everyone on the site like the rest of us. If you would like to book a trip with Lafitte's Orignal Professional Fishing Team, where your Captain will not yell at you for missing or losing a fish or tangling a rodnreel.Fishing is supposed to be fun.You can e-mail us at captainphil02@cox.net or give us a call at 504-689-2006. WOW, "Take the money and run"! I'm sure that is not what BSM did. I'm sure you received a full refund on your bait. I understand that some of you out there think that the bait is grown in the tanks, but that is not actually how it works. Boogie has been going out at night to make sure customers have their bait for their fishing trips. It just so happen that a part of his boat broke. Things happen sometimes and we can change it. I'm willing to bet that 99% of the time you are treated with respect and given the bait you ask and pay for. As far as Charter captains getting some kind of special treatment, you couldn't be more wrong. Get there early, and then you can get your bait. Boogie boat is now fixed. BSM now has 6 bait tanks full for tomorrow. |

HOPEDALE/BRETON SOUND REPORT.... I had the pleasure to fish with Dereck Kennedy from the Monroe area. He brought along his son Cattar and Cattar's pal, Jake. They tried to squeeze in a trip before Jake's baseball shedule got too hectic. Derek was going a lot out of the West side of the state taking charters out of Calcesieu, but this time they decided to come down and give Hopedale a try. We headed over toward the channel and stopped on a structure and it was FISH ON! From the first cast to the last it was non stop action as fast as you can get it with some nice fish. It was Jake's first time ever fishing like this and he caught on quicker than I imagined. I needed some fish for the house so I told them to catch me a few and before long the guys had 90 in the box and it was only 8am. I brought them to look for a few reds. We were able to look at the fish but couldn't convince them to take any baits. They did all get a turn with a red and wound up with 4 reds, 3 drum, and a nice flounder to add in the igloo. We fished til 9:30 and as the heater came on in full force we headed back in for some shade! It was another great trip with some great people and good fun! All fish were caught on live "Boogie Shrimp" under corks.

HOPEDALE/BRETON SOUND REPORT.... Had the pleasure of fishing with Joe Mier and his group of guys last week. We fished around Eloi and worked out to the Sound. It started out a little rough early but laid down a good bit. By the time that happened and we found the clean water around 5 wells we started having bait issues. The guys were catching a some fish the bite was just slow and steady. Before long all of our bait died. Thank God Rory was on the same rig as me and was about done. He was kind enough to spare me his leftover shrimp and it was enough to salvage the day. THANKS RORY! The crew still wound up with a nice box of 48 speckled trout and a few redfish to boot. All fish were caught on Live and Dead "Boogie" Shrimp both under corks and carolina rigged. Fishing has been incredible and Hopedale is about as HOT as it gets! It is just going to get better and better as the river drops, which means BIG TROUT in the Sound are gonna crank back up! So if you are ready to get out and get in on some AWESOME summertime action before it's all over then call soon as you can and get your date locked down on the books. Call direct 504-259-5304 or check us out on the web @ www.OughtToBeFishing.com.

In response to Capt. Kerry Audibert-Ought To Be Fishing Charters Let me rephrase myself, I did get my shrimp around 5:30(which for me was late). We left the dock at 6. I did just talk to Glen and he said they did run out of shrimp because boogie's winch broke last night. Both you and Bryan must have caught it at a point in time before Kathy inside at the register knew. Give a little more credit and not talk it down so much over what was probably one occurrence. BSM has a great reputation for the simple reasons of why you were there yourself this morning. |

Fishing Magician Charters Today we had 4 boats out. I had my two sons, Captains Jason and Jeremy, and my brother Capt. Lester helped me out with the charters. We had the pleasure of fishing with Jeff Reid and his friends. We all fished in the Breton Sound area. Everyone caught a nice box of speckled trout, some reds and a couple of flounders. All fish were caught on Campo's live shrimp and croakers, fishing 2' under a popping cork and Carolina rig on the bottom. Guys there are lots of fish in the Sound to be caught. But, it is very hot, so make sure you bring: a hat, sunglasses, sunscreen, and a lot of liquids to drink. Capt. Jason was able to take some pictures of his customer's catch and my boat's catch. The other boats were finished cleaning their fish before we arrived back to the dock. So, check out the pictures of our fish with no ice. If you want to catch some fish and have some fun, Fishing Magician Charters is the one. The hardest thing you will have to do is pick up the phone to give us a call or email us. Capt. Johnny Nunez |

In response to Stick FYI "Stick" There were no guides out of the Breton Sound Marina today, except for me. I only had a two person charter and bought 100 shrimp. My clients were late and we left at 6am. People were still getting shrimp both before and after I got mine. If you think us "guides" get special service.....buddy you are wrong! We have to wait in line like everyone else. We do make it a point to be first in line....so maybe you should try to get there a little earlier. And PS Glen was back and forth throughout the day. It was his day off but he was out fishing and did come back. He got back shortly after me around 8:30am. You would have seen him if you would have been there early. |
